Obesity Control and PA Promotion

BMI classification in CHINA
To support the prevention and control of obesity in China, ILSI Focal Point in China established the working group on obesity of China (WGOC) in 2000. Separate meta analysis have been conducted for the development of the BMI classification for Chinese adults and adolescents by WGOC. The Guideline for Obesity Control and Prevention for Chinese adults recommended by the WGOC has been adopted and promulgated by the Ministry of Health of China. The work done by WGOC has been well known in China and highly appreciated by government, academia and industry. The development of BMI classification for children under 6 year-old was initiated in December 2004.

Analysis on PA pattern in Chinese population
Based on the 2002 National Nutrition and Health Survey in China, the PA pattern of Chinese population was analyzed by the Institute of Nutrition and Food safety, China CDC, coordinated by ILSI Focal Point in China and supported by Mars/Effem Incorporated.

Study on application of “take 10!” in China
Based on the ILSI CHP’s experience on “Take 10!”, ILSI Focal Point in China launched a pilot project on “Take 10!” in one school in Beijing implemented by the Institute of Nutrition and Food Safety, China CDC. The study was initiated with a survey on the knowledge, attitude and practice of PA in children, parents and teachers translation and modification of “Take 10!” training material and program protocol were made. Take 10 is quite welcome by the children and the teachers.
